Old Church
   New Story

Our doors opened in 1909, making us the first Nazarene church established in Michigan. In 1998, a new vision and focus to the ministries of Grand Rapids First Church of the Nazarene was determined. We called the new vision "Reaching Tomorrow - Today"

The plan was three-fold...

  • Update our current facility
  • Start new churches in other parts of the city
  • Refocus our ministries to purposefully connect people in our multicultural community to Jesus.

As a part of this new vision, Grand Rapids First Church of the Nazarene became Grand Rapids International Fellowship - A Church of the Nazarene.

Same Purpose
 Different Plan

The primary reason we exist is to introduce people to Christ, encourage them to have a personal relationship with Him and to live a life set apart to serve God.

Our purpose has remained the same, but the way in which we reach people is different. In the summer of 1999, a group of Haitian members became the first new church to form from our congregation. Today they meet on the Northwest side of the city and are enjoying good days. In the Fall of 2000 several members from our congregation and two of our pastors were "sent out" to start two more churches. Bridgeway Community Church meets in the Rockford area and High Pointe Community Church meets in Byron Center. Now, on any given Sunday, over 1000 people attend these new churches. And, the best part, many are discovering the benefits of knowing Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

At Grand Rapids International Fellowship, it is our intention to purposefully establish ministries to reach across cultures. With God's help, we're striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible. A place where is constant prayer, relevant teaching, genuine worship, honest friendships, and compassionate care for those in need.

We realize that we will make some mistakes along the way; however, it is with thankful hearts that our mission - "To connect people in our multicultural community to Jesus Christ, and together, grow in full devotion to Him," is becoming a reality.

So, whether you are just starting to ask questions about God, or are a committed Christian who wants to deepen your faith, we hope you will find your church home at Grand Rapids International Fellowship.
